Simon Kömpf already attended an upper secondary school with a focus on information technology in Calw-Wimberg, Germany, where he acquired programming skills and basic knowledge of network engineering.
From 2011–2015, he studied Informatics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). The curriculum included cryptography and information security management; another focus was on robotics. He completed his studies with a Bachelor’s thesis on the dissemination of personal data. Simon Kömpf has been working at cirosec GmbH since the end of 2015 and is now a senior consultant.
In the beginning he was mainly concerned with penetration tests and product solutions. This included not only the protection of endpoints using micro-virtualization but also vulnerability scanners and network access control (NAC) solutions.
For a while now however, the focus of is work has been on penetration tests in the web environment. Simon Kömpf was able to acquire extensive knowledge of the wide range of web application technologies and their vulnerabilities through numerous security assessments of web applications. He uses this expertise for cirosec’s own testing standards for web applications, whose further development he is responsible for.
